Armstrong Flooring - Infinity
Armstrong manufactures vinyl floors for different sectors like healthcare, education, hospitality and retail. The client approached us with the intention of increasing uptake on the old web platform. They wanted to allow their customers to easily design their flooring online and order samples from Armstrong.
Understand and Discover
The main challenge was being involved halfway through this project with completed wireframes that wasn't based on any research. I was able to negotiate with the client and my team to do some quick customer research in the form of surveys. The goal was to at least understand why customers weren't using the old platform and what their ultimate goal was.
Synthesis and Define
Gaining better understanding of the customers and what they wanted to achieve with the platform, I played back these findings in the form of journey maps and personas which resonated with the client.
Ideation
I quickly ideated in the form of sketches. Running them by the team, we then presented these to the client to get approval of direction. At this point, the client was excited about the direction.
Wireframe and Prototyping
From the initial sketches, I designed wireframes and prototypes.
User testing
I then set up and conducted unmoderated user testing. I tested out the basic functionality but more importantly, those main goals we uncovered were being met with the new designs.
UI Design
Taking the outcomes of the user testing, I made those minor iterations in the hi-fidelity UI designs.
Walkthrough, development and outcomes
With approval of UI designs from client, I walked the team through the designs and flows and worked with developers throughout to ensure designs and functionality were as expected. After release, we learned from the client their was significant increase in usage of the platform and increase to customers requesting samples directly through the platform.
